Apple Crumble (how to make the perfect crumble!)

Serves 4


6 Cooking Apples
250g or 2 Cups White Or Brown Sugar
200g or 1.5 Cups Plain White Flour
150g or 5Tbsp Butter Chopped


Preheat oven  - I currently have an electric fan oven and use 150°C.

Make the perfect crumble(!)
Mix the flour, remaining sugar and butter gently with your fingertips in a bowl until it looks & feels like breadcrumbs. Put the bowl in the fridge for an hour or as long as you can (the longer the better really!) - this is the secret to a perfect crumble!

Peel, core and roughly dice the apples. Put them in a pan with three quaters of the sugar. Cover with a lid and stew gently for half an hour stirring occasionally. Allow the apples to cool.

Put the cooled apple stew in to an oven proof bowl and cover with the crumble mixture without pressing down.

Bake for about 30 minutes or until the crumble is golden brown and crunchy.


Yummy with custard or icecream!
